The secret to achieving your goals: Focus
Updated: Feb 8
I always thought that the key to achieving our goals is to have the right motivation. But as I found out, motivation is not realiable. It comes and goes. It’s easily distracted. It can even be manipulated.
But most recently, I discovered that the secret to achieving any goal is through focus.
In this world full of distractions, where millions of information are presented to us, where social media dominates our day to day lives, one key thing that we lack is focus.
So this year, make it your goal to focus. Focus on one thing, be good at it, be really good at it, learn continuously, and commit to improving day by day.
It’s crazy to think how much we’ve been glued to our phones, from the moment we wake up to the moment we go to bed. How long we mindlessly scroll through social media for hours on end as a way to escape the real world. How nonsense is this. What a serious waste of time.
So if you’re reading this, I challenge you one thing: Drastically reduce the number of hours you’re on your phone each day, and see the difference that it makes. See how productive (or not) you become. Just try it.
Go on your phone, search up screen time (android and iPhone users should have something similar). Review how much screen time you’ve had over the past few days, weeks, or even months. And cut that in half. Then, when you’ve gotten the hang of it. Cut it some more. Cut it until you no longer crave it.
Don’t get me wrong. You can still browse the internet, some of us actually need to for work. But how about, instead of browing on your phone with hundreds of distractions at your fingertips, use your computer or laptop instead?
And even more, try using just one screen, so you are focusing on one task at a time. Turn off notifications. And focus.
Make this one small change in your life this year, and see the difference that it makes. Discipline yourself and make it your goal to have focus this year. You won’t regret it.
